I felt that, and when I started running regularly again, I don’t think it was any coincidence that my mental health has improved dramatically again. At the start of this year, as well as still struggling, I had sinusitis for six weeks and then got food poisoning from some paté and was vomiting for a week. Now what drives me is not whether I’m getting personal bests or fitting into dresses but that, if I don’t run regularly, I notice a massive dip in my mental health. In 2016 I had mental health problems and running totally changed its purpose for me. I did a half marathon in 2014 and now I’m training for the London Marathon. I joined a gym and made a few miserable attempts to run but didn’t get into it until my spinning instructor suggested I join a club. I didn’t really do any exercise until about 2012 when I couldn’t do the zip up on a nice dress I got from Whistles.
